There are years that ask the questions and years that answer.

Live the Questions Now
“Have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language. Don’t search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you...

– Mattressland owner, in Glee Season 1, Episode 12, Mattress. A terrific ep (especially for Rachel Berry moments). Rachel’s face and nervous looking around after he says this quote is AMAZING. Need a gif of it, but here is a screencap:

A Train From Hell →
“At some point, it became morning. But the windows were too iced over to see the sun rise.”
It’s like a horror movie! Shuddering thinking of this. I’ve been on the A train for over an hour before, on the way to JFK, but that’s just how long it takes to get there. I can’t imagine being in a subway car for 8 hours.

NYC Blizzard
Over two feet of snow.Truly a winter wonderland. I love it. First tried to leave apartment…
Then saw two (not one! two!) garbage trucks with plows on the front stuck in the snow and playing bumper cars with the parked cars. Oi vey, what a mess.
Made it into work - lucky that I live on a subway stop that is below ground. The view from my office window, on to 16th St.

The Truth, or Enough of It
I first saw Jennifer Lawrence as a young Charlize Theron in ‘The Burning Plain,’ and I could already sense that there was something solid about this actress. Serious, resilient, always thinking, with a slight vulnerability sneaking out through the edges. When I saw ‘Winter’s Bone,’ (and heard about the subsequent accolades she’s gotten for it), I therefore was...

Woohoo! Thank you, NEH! Always happy when I get grants. It’s not a lot of money, but I’ll take it. We’re getting a preservation survey done of our collections.

I saw a man on the subway platform this morning playing ‘O Holy Night’ on the trumpet. It was a bit off-key, disjointed, and kind of the most beautiful sound ever.

The stage manager held the show and didn’t cancel right away because that is what you do. “The show must go on.” There are contingencies in place for such emergencies on shows like that, and that show was very costly to produce and the opening has been pushed back several times. It is hanging on…

The weight we carry is love
Song, by Allen Ginsberg
The weight of the world is love. Under the burden of solitude, under the burden of dissatisfaction the weight, the weight we carry is love. Who can deny? In dreams it touches the body, in thought constructs a miracle, in imagination anguishes till born in human— looks out of the heart burning with purity— for the burden of life is love, ...

Just want to give a shout-out to the other network show I watch regularly…it’s brilliant, and deserves more accolades that it’s been given (particularly for the actors’ work).
